FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT LAW

One of the major expertise of the Firm is investment and international trade law. We provide multinationals with legal advice on all laws and regulation relevant to their investments in Jordan including corporate structuring, corporate taxation, joint ventures, subsidies, allowances and exemptions, repatriation of capital and proceeds, free technology parks and export / free trade areas. We also advise foreign investors on Jordan's commitments under bilateral investment treaties (BITs) and other such international frameworks (i.e., ICSID Convention 1965), and how such commitments interact with the interests of foreign investors.

Electrecity Regulation & Privatization

We pride ourselves for being the Jordanian legal practice, which heavily participated in articulating the new electricity regulatory structure of Jordan.  As part of our duties in the privatization of the Jordanian electricity sector project, we advised on the formation of the new Electricity Regulatory Commission, the drafting of the new General Electricity Law No. 64 for the year 2002 and other secondary legislation, licenses and other regulatory instruments, transaction agreements, transfer schemes, guarantees, corporatisations and corporate restructuring, and commercialisations.

Projects

We have delivered advice on a variety of projects in the energy sector.  This included Al-Samra Independent Power project; the Wind Plant Power project; privatization of the Electricity Distribution Company, the Central Electricity Generation Company and, Irbid District Electricity Company; the Transportation and Sale of Natural GAS from Egypt within Jordan; and regulatory and corporate advice to the National Electricity Power Company.
